The "Riff Playbooks" column is designed to make you a better player. By gleaning some insight into the technique, composition, and execution of these fine riffs by fine SH artists, you are bound to make headway in your own playing. We cordially invite you to steal a page from our books in order to expand your own diabolical playbook of musical wizardry (not literally though, the books are expensive to create).

Zach Pishney, guitarist of Like Moths To Flames, certainly knows his way around a 7 string. The levels of technicality, melody, and pure groove heard on LMTF’s latest, No Eternity In Gold, are all dialled in to near perfection, and it is plain to hear in the song we’re looking at today. In his first ever SH Riff Playbook, Zach showcases the fantastic balance & songwriting that his band has achieved, with the song "Fluorescent White". This song gets moving right off the bat with a thrashy progression, laiden with melodic hooks and panic chords, which quickly drops into a very satisfying half time groove, all the while maintaining the melodic and thematic cornerstones of the song thus far. It’s all we’ve come to know and love in Metalcore, and then some. Check out the video below, and grab the full-song free tabs here, we’re certain that you’ll have a blast learning this section (and the entire song!), and that you’ll pick up some deadly techniques along the way.
