Riff Playbooks

Riff Playbooks: Sithu Aye

Introduction

The "Riff Playbooks" column is designed to make you a better player.  By gleaning some insight into the technique, composition, and execution of these fine riffs by fine SH artists, you are bound to make headway in your own playing.  We cordially invite you to steal a page from our books in order to expand your own diabolical playbook of musical wizardry (not literally though, the books are expensive to create).

Sithu rolled through our neck of the woods to play at our beloved (and colourful) 'Lee's Palace' a year ago, last August (I know, we have been compiling riff videos for a long time now!).  He was supporting "Haken" on a 10 yr anniversary tour, and despite it being among the first days of the tour, agreed to sit down with us!

Here's Sithu on the madness of the day:

"So after dealing with the rush of tour, arriving in a new city and venue and a literal car crash (in reality, our Bandwagon just backed up into somebody in our driver's blind spot!), it was nice to sit down with the Sheet Happens dudes in the heart of Toronto and take you through part of the song that started this whole, nonsensical anime music journey which I never even considered would be a part of what I do. Here, I'll be taking you through the verse of the song, playing the main rhythm part and lead line for you."

Here are bars 13-43 of "Senpai, Please Notice Me!" from Sithu's "Senpai EP":

Before we had Sithu slow down those incredibly fast runs, it was awesome to hear him speak about the extra content in his first book with SH.  He was emphatic that he wanted his book to stand out from the rest - and he made sure of that by creating full page Manga strips to introduce each song and carry the story of the EP throughout the entire music book.  More info about Sithu's additions to this awesome book can be found on the product page.

Here are the sections slowed down a bit for us human beings:

We, in partnership with the man himself, are well on our way to completing both the "Senpai EP II" and "Set Course for Andromeda"!  Both are set to drop within the next couple of months at shthppns.com
