Closure In Moscow

Posted — September 11, 2019

Closure In Moscow; talented, handsome, Australian - what more could you ask for? For those of you who aren’t aware, Closure In Moscow are a fantastic prog rock band from Melbourne, Australia. Less concerned with the more virtuoso tendencies that the genre is synonymous with, the band fill that prog framework with leanings of classic R&B, funk, and indie rock. If you’re looking for serious musicianship delivered in a fun and upbeat package, look no further. Last year, Sheet Happens sat down with guitarists, Michael Barrett and Mansur "Manny" Zennelli, to get a glimpse into their approach to the playing and writing of their 2008 LP, “First Temple”.  As is tradition with our "Riff Playbooks" series, we also got to ask a few questions about the life & times of the Closure boys.

First up is Barret with a section from “Had To Put It In The Soil”, this section is a fantastic example of Closure’s ability to achieve a poppy hook and groove based around technical guitar. In the book we are looking at bars 1-12, on pages 112-113.

Now here's the part slowed down:

After such a brilliant and serious demonstration, we had to learn more about the who, why, and when of Barret's clear guitar mastery:

There you have it. Barret is very talented, and his dad owes him 50 bucks. Now that he's successfully sold you on the riffs, head over to Closure In Moscow's artist page, here, and grab yourself a copy of "First Temple - The Complete Guitar Transcription".
